Amazon Just Opted Your Ads Into Creator Placements. Here's What to Check Before August 10.
Amazon is pushing your Sponsored Products ads off Amazon and into creator content, and your campaigns are already opted in. On August 4, 2026, Amazon updated its support page “Understand Sponsored Products off-Amazon advertising” to add creators as a placement destination. The advertiser notice sets a start date of August 10, 2026, with existing campaigns enrolled at their current bids and budgets and no action required from you.
The recommendation is direct: treat this week as a controls audit, not a wait-and-see. “No action required” means the default settings decide where your budget goes, and the default is set to expand reach. If you do nothing, high-intent search dollars start funding top-of-funnel browsing traffic on someone else’s content. That can be fine. It can also quietly drag your ACoS. You want to make that call on purpose, not by default.
What actually changed
Offsite Sponsored Products is not new. Amazon extended the format to publisher sites and apps like Pinterest and BuzzFeed back in October 2023, on the same automatic-participation basis. What is new on August 10 is the surface. Creators in the Amazon Influencer Program with verified engagement and Amazon sales history can now select advertised products to feature in product reviews, editorial content, and buying guides. Amazon recommends products to those creators algorithmically based on brand relevance, and the creators self-select what to feature. A click on their content routes the shopper to your product detail page on Amazon.
The mechanics that matter for your P&L: your maximum bid applies to every click, on or off Amazon. Dynamic bidding still applies. But your Top of Search and Product Pages bid adjustments do not apply to off-Amazon placements. Every click counts against the same campaign budget as your search clicks, and you pay per click regardless of how the creator is paid. Availability covers the US, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, India, the Middle East, North Africa, Turkey, and select EU countries. The UK is not on the list.
One reported detail to treat as reported, not confirmed: some practitioners say Amazon is offering top-tier creators guaranteed earnings per click to pick up recommended products. That claim does not appear in Amazon’s notice or documentation, and Amazon has not said how creators are paid. Do not build a plan around it.
Why this can move your ACoS the wrong way
Off-Amazon creator traffic does not behave like a shopper typing “garlic press” into the search bar. It is contextual browsing at the top of the funnel, and it converts differently. That is not a reason to block it. Discovery traffic has real value if you measure it as discovery. It is a reason to stop it from hiding inside the same budget line and blended ACoS as your bottom-of-funnel search campaigns, where it looks like your search efficiency slipped when the mix simply changed.
There is a reporting wrinkle that makes this sharper. On placements with no search context, like social sites, Amazon infers and supplies a search term based on customer context. So your search-term reports for these campaigns will contain queries no shopper ever typed. Those inferred terms are still available as negative targets, but if you run automated rules off search-term data, machine-generated queries in the feed can trigger the wrong actions. Know they are there before you act on the report.
The controls to set this week
You have a small number of real levers. Set them deliberately before the 10th.
- Find the campaign setting labeled “Settings for ads served off Amazon.” The default is “Increase reach,” which uses your targeting to add offsite impressions. The alternative is “Limit off-Amazon spend,” which constrains offsite delivery. You can change it at any time, so this is reversible.
- Decide per campaign, not account-wide. Let brand-story and lifestyle SKUs that look good in creator content lean into reach. Keep your efficiency and defense campaigns on limited offsite spend so your core ACoS target stays clean.
- Use the bulksheet. Amazon added an “Off-Amazon ad serving” column to Sponsored Products bulksheets for US advertisers on June 8, 2026. That is how you set this across a large account in one pass instead of clicking through campaigns one at a time.
- Use the creator exclusion and the deny list. You can exclude specific creators, and you can block specific sites and apps through deny list preferences. Amazon auto-blocks unsafe third-party properties, but brand-fit is your call, not theirs.
- Isolate measurement. Pull the Sponsored Products Placement Report under Campaign manager, Measuring and Reporting, and use the Placement Classification metric to separate onsite from offsite performance. Judge the offsite slice on its own goal. Do not let it distort the search number you report up the chain.
The mistake to avoid is a blanket reaction in either direction. Killing all offsite spend on day one throws away real discovery reach. Leaving everything on “Increase reach” and not watching the split hands Amazon your budget mix. The operators who come out ahead here are the ones who set the toggle per campaign, tag offsite as its own funnel stage, and check the placement report weekly for the first month while the traffic is new.
The cross-marketplace read
This is Amazon extending its highest-revenue ad format, Sponsored Products, which the company again named as its largest offering alongside $19.8 billion in ad revenue for Q2 2026, up 26 percent. Expect more offsite inventory and more auto-enrollment defaults, not less. The habit worth building now is simple: whenever a marketplace expands where your ads run by default, treat the default as a decision you did not make yet, and go make it. The same discipline applies as Walmart Connect and other retail media networks push their own inventory expansions.
If you want your Sponsored Products campaigns set up correctly for this before August 10, with offsite spend controlled per campaign and measurement split so your ACoS stays honest, a strategy assessment is the fastest way to get it done right.
